IT'S not about losing weight anymore. It's about living.

HI guys,

I have decided after much much thought that I really need to change my diet. After suffering for so long with my throat issues, I realized that its all about food. Food can be our friend or enemy. Not just weight loss and weight gain, but over all well being and for me, the food I am eating is KILLING ME. yes. It is. Bluntly speaking-my food is killing me. As you may have read, I may have GERD and currently I am on prilosec and tums every day. i cannot tell you how scared I have been of eating lately. I eat ofcourse, but every bite i take I freak out because I am scared i will eat something that will trigger my mucus to thicken again in my throat and cause me to start panicking for air.  It is really NOT fun! TRUST ME! It is so bad I have done so much reading that i have decied that i will be avoiding:

DAIRY AND EGG
NUTS
ALL GRAINS
RED MEAT
FATTY FOODS (i GERD doesnt go hand in hand with fats)

I am extremely sad. I am soooo sad you cant even imagine. I used to live offf tons of yogurt and cottage cheese just 3 weeks ago! I would eat tons of almond butter and peanut butter daily with almost every meal! I would eat french toast some morning and wraps. I LIVED OFF THIS STUFF! I would walk my booty 45 minutes to trader joes just to get 4 tubs of greek yogurt! I am seriously terrified at how bad this whole mucus thing has been and still not recovred completely.

I will be eating whey protein. Also eggs arent completely out, but very limited only for my baking.

I dont know when I will recover and if i will have the guts to eat any of the above foods again. I am scared. It was the worst weeks of my life. I never felt so scared in my life.

  1. Ashley, from all the reading I've done, I think you are doing the right thing. Maria Emmerich from mariahealth.blogspot.com has a good post about GERD. On one of the comments she talks about eliminating some foods so you can try to identify what is causing the problem. Please check out this post if you haven't read it.
http://mariahealth.blogspot.com/2011/08/perfect-pancakes-and-syrup-and-acid.html. You can bring it up if you search GERD on her blog. I think you are doing the right thing. Hang in there. It will get better. XO!

  2. I think you already knew about the cottage cheese and yogurt. You said many times that you thought you were lactose intolerant. I hope by eliminating all that stuff will make you feel better. Have a nice day Girly :-)

  3. I used to have a chronic post nasal drip and acid reflux (yucky stuff). The drip is about 80% gone and the reflux is totally gone. I can't believe I lived with it for so long. I'm sure for me it was wheat related. Find what's causing it for you and just learn to live without that thing. It's not worth the suffering to eat it (IMHO). Feel better :)

    1. trina, Can you please give me advice on what dietary changes you made and what to loook for? I believe i have post nasal drip because I get a lot of mucus that is stuck in my throat but yet i am neither sick nor allergies.
I dont know what to take...mucinex? benadryl? i stipped taking benadryl because i heard that dries up the mucus which will only make it thicker in the throat.. thank you!
